Interesting Person

We've been meeting lovely people here, Alhamdulillah :)

Today, we chanced upon a Malaysian lady. At first we saw her at the school campus, and she smiled at us, so we smiled back. Other Half and I concluded she's a Malay, and probably teaches Malay Studies at the campus.

Turns out, we're right! Haha!

I bumped into her when I was wandering in the campus looking for a bookshop. Then we started to get to know each other. Coincidentally, Other Half completed his registration. He joined us, and since we too have not eaten lunch, she graciously offered to bring us to this Malaysian restaurant.

Food there's not bad! I had Mee Bandung, and it's pretty good! I don't really know what Mee Bandung tastes like actually, but who cares! This is good! Hahaha. A little ex, though. The place is called Tuk Din, somewhere in Paddington/ Sussex Gardens.

The woman we met? Whoa. Seems like she's hobnobbed with some big shots! She's a journalist/ freelance writer whose been here for over 20 years. She knows Jimmy Choo! Like, really good frens kinda 'know'. And this Jimmy Choo person makes shoes for people so voluntarily! Well, perhaps cos in her stories, either that person is famous, or is close to him. Haha. Oh well! No harm trying! Imagine! My own pair of Jimmy Choos! Even better if it's custom-designed!

The lunch and chat was like, two hours or so? A lot of information, a lot of "wow" especially from me. Coolness! Who knew we'd bump into each other! Haha.

I hope we get to meet more interesting people along the way! :)

Oh yeah. We made jemput-jemput pisang tonight. Watched Champions League (Man Utd versus some German club) and ate them. Wee~!!! Yesterday morning, I tried making french toast! Heehee. But as usual, lacks taste. HAHA. I have to improve on the salt and sugar part. We'll be moving into our apartment on Friday, which means I can start cooking already! Whee!! I can spend the entire day cooking! Take my own sweet time to get it right! Haha! Fun :)

Daiso Ramekins

Finally finally went to Daiso!! Wanted to go there for ages already! The first thing I came in, went to the cooking section. Found my ramekins! But they're not white. Oh wells. Can't be choosy for $2 ramekins! There were white ones, but super small white ramekins. And pie tarts too! Oooh so tempting! But I don't know when I'll make tarts hurhur. Actually I'm still thinking what I should bake using these ramekins. I remember having one of those "I wish I had ramekins right now" moments but I can't remember when. Maybe when I was making lava cake . Daiso is evil. It's so cheap you just feel like coming back again! Oh and did I mention there's a $2 weighing scale?! Measures up to a kilo but that's quite alright for baking isn't it! I mean, $2!! Dirt cheap lah. Not sure about the accuracy though. Didn't do much cleaning last weekend, very much spent lazing around at home just like what weekends should be like. I love being at ho...

Apam Balik

I love apam balik. The soft one, with lots of corn. So when @khairulaming posted this on his instagram, I bookmarked it. The recipe is not too much until you get sick of eating apam balik, but I do feel it needs some tweaks to get the pancake king version. But not bad for a first try. 2 cups flour 1/2 cup sugar 1 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp baking soda 2 tbsp melted butter 1 1/4 cups water 1 egg Additional butter for the pan I do feel it needs some salt, more sugar and I shouldn't have liberally made it so thick HAHA. The pan is important too, I kinda burnt some parts of the pancake. Got them bubbles!! This recipe made 2 large pancakes. Also, the filling needs to be sprinkled with sugar liberally (read: 3 tbsp or so), my first try wasn't enough. Pancake was soft even for the next few days after that (kept in the fridge then reheated in the microwave). Husband found it to be acceptable, but I was kinda not okay with it but ohwells. I can tweak it ...

Lontong Goreng Tomyam

When Husband's not around, I become more hardworking HAHAHA. I clean more, I cook more. Saturday I made lontong goreng tomyam for breakfast, and yesterday I made my first ever chicken rice. I even have ingredients to make aglio olio, which I think I'll make either tonight or early tomorrow morning for breakfast. The lontong goreng was a pure experiment, no inferences from recipes and all but it turned out good. Not sure if it's something Husband would eat haha! Lontong Goreng Tomyam 1 packet lontong instant Adabi, cut in cubes 4 tbsp tomyam paste 2 eggs, pre-scrambled Handful of mushrooms Chicken breast, sliced Coriander leaves (I didn't have lemongrass or lime leaves) 1/2-1 tsp salt Fry the tomyam paste in some oil, then add the mushrooms and chicken to cook them. Add some water so the paste doesn't dry up. Add in the scrambled eggs then the lontong cubes and fry until mixed well. For yesterday's chicken rice, I adapted slightly from a reci...
