What Awaits in Langkawi

We're going to Langkawi this Friday till the 7th, and Husband has a conference to attend from that Friday till Monday. Bummer. Anyhoo. It's back to honeymoonland! With a baby. No scooter rides there! Or... Can we? Hurhurhur :D

Ahhh Langkawi :) We loved our stay there. Very laid back, and our stay at Sheraton was awesome. Humongous rooms!

Okay back to present day. I have yet to pack! How much diapers would I have to bring omg! And clothes! I do think I'd have to wash some? Games! What should I do with Junior when Husband's away? I need to keep him entertained and brain stimulated. But almost everything he sees and holds, he wants to put them in his mouth. No sandy beach for him then.

And the hotel we're staying in for the first three nights giving me the creeps. The name sounds nice - Awana Porto Malai. But the reviews! Omg the toilet reviews! It's disgusting. Like moss-gross. There's picture evidence too. How can they not scrub their floors once in a while! Use chlorox or something! Okay fine it does have good sea view provided our room is facing the sea but there's no guarantee of that, but I'm still grossed out by the bathroom! I don't understand why some people still rate it 4 out of 5 or worse, FIVE out of 5 on the tripadvisor. Maybe they got cleaner bathrooms. Maybe they didn't use the bathrooms. Maybe they can live with such ickyness! Yuck. I wonder if the swimming pool's gonna be any good. I thought of bringing Junior for a swim, I hope it's not crowded or dirty. I can't have him swimming in the bathtub with icky grossness everywhere.

I am sooo looking forward to the stay at Sheraton after that. I know I know, whaaat? Same hotel as before? Well we don't want any surprises, and Sheraton has a great deal.

Daiso Ramekins

Finally finally went to Daiso!! Wanted to go there for ages already! The first thing I came in, went to the cooking section. Found my ramekins! But they're not white. Oh wells. Can't be choosy for $2 ramekins! There were white ones, but super small white ramekins. And pie tarts too! Oooh so tempting! But I don't know when I'll make tarts hurhur. Actually I'm still thinking what I should bake using these ramekins. I remember having one of those "I wish I had ramekins right now" moments but I can't remember when. Maybe when I was making lava cake . Daiso is evil. It's so cheap you just feel like coming back again! Oh and did I mention there's a $2 weighing scale?! Measures up to a kilo but that's quite alright for baking isn't it! I mean, $2!! Dirt cheap lah. Not sure about the accuracy though. Didn't do much cleaning last weekend, very much spent lazing around at home just like what weekends should be like. I love being at ho...

Apam Balik

I love apam balik. The soft one, with lots of corn. So when @khairulaming posted this on his instagram, I bookmarked it. The recipe is not too much until you get sick of eating apam balik, but I do feel it needs some tweaks to get the pancake king version. But not bad for a first try. 2 cups flour 1/2 cup sugar 1 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp baking soda 2 tbsp melted butter 1 1/4 cups water 1 egg Additional butter for the pan I do feel it needs some salt, more sugar and I shouldn't have liberally made it so thick HAHA. The pan is important too, I kinda burnt some parts of the pancake. Got them bubbles!! This recipe made 2 large pancakes. Also, the filling needs to be sprinkled with sugar liberally (read: 3 tbsp or so), my first try wasn't enough. Pancake was soft even for the next few days after that (kept in the fridge then reheated in the microwave). Husband found it to be acceptable, but I was kinda not okay with it but ohwells. I can tweak it ...

Lontong Goreng Tomyam

When Husband's not around, I become more hardworking HAHAHA. I clean more, I cook more. Saturday I made lontong goreng tomyam for breakfast, and yesterday I made my first ever chicken rice. I even have ingredients to make aglio olio, which I think I'll make either tonight or early tomorrow morning for breakfast. The lontong goreng was a pure experiment, no inferences from recipes and all but it turned out good. Not sure if it's something Husband would eat haha! Lontong Goreng Tomyam 1 packet lontong instant Adabi, cut in cubes 4 tbsp tomyam paste 2 eggs, pre-scrambled Handful of mushrooms Chicken breast, sliced Coriander leaves (I didn't have lemongrass or lime leaves) 1/2-1 tsp salt Fry the tomyam paste in some oil, then add the mushrooms and chicken to cook them. Add some water so the paste doesn't dry up. Add in the scrambled eggs then the lontong cubes and fry until mixed well. For yesterday's chicken rice, I adapted slightly from a reci...
