(Failed) Cooking Attempt 1

Good morning.

Yesterday was the first buka at home with home cooked food. No instant food, no tapau-from-parents food.

I was actually pretty nervous about cooking. Haha! I have minimal experience, always trying to avoid helping my mum in the kitchen hehehe. So I wrote down the things to buy, and I followed Shez's advice, visualise what I'll be doing. Lunchtime, went to get the ingredients that have not been bought, and after work we rushed home! Haha.

Ayam masak lemak cili padi.

Didn't turn out like what my mum cooks. Not spicy at all because *someone* didn't want too many cili padi. The gravy was kinda tasteless cos too little salt but I think the main culprit is too much water added. I would like to say in my defence, not me either. Haha! Okay okay, too much excuses. But! Practice makes perfect. This is only the start.

Other Half being the sweet Other Half he is, he didn't complain :) He even asked for a second helping :)

Oh yeah no vege yet! Even though vege is easy to cook. Hahaha.

I tried my yoghurt drink! I likeeeee!! :))))

Later, Other Half made supper! Whee~

Yeah I know, we're not supposed to have supper. I'm supposed to discourage him too. He fried maggi me with some eggs. Nice! I love fried maggi :)

So yesterday, in the spirit of Singapore loving to declare special days for specific activities, I declared it Cook for Your Spouse Day! Hahahahaha

Today, we probably won't cook. But we're gonna prepare for tomorrow!! Mee soto and I'll try to fit in some begedel! Dunoe when I'll be making them though. HAHA. Still need to get potato peeler. So fun so fun! Maybe I shall get the begedel done in the morning.

Off to the supermarket (again!) today! :)

CNY Bakes

Back from the long weekend! Spent two days fully at home, cooking and baking. So happy. Day 1 was sindhi briyani and Almond London . Day 2 was ayam lemak cili padi and a batch of almost Famous Amos chocolate chip cookies , but I split the batter into 2: hazelnut, white chocolate, cranberry combination and hazelnut, dark chocolate chip combination. I made the cranberry ones first, they taste awesome. But after I ate the chocolate chip one, say bye bye to cranberry! Nothing beats chocolate. And the white chocolate chips somehow dissolved into the batter, melted. What to do, it's just white chips from Redman. I should try a better brand instead.  Happy new year indeed!

White Chocolate Cranberry Oatmeal Bars

I love these! It's like a blondie but to make me feel less guilty, there's oatmeal. Was supposed to make these and freeze for easy morning breakfasts, but seems like they ran out pretty quickly that it didn't require that much freezing. Original recipe here . I made these almost three months ago and I still think about making these again and again. White Chocolate Cranberry Oatmeal Bars 2 1/2 cups old fashioned oats 2 cups flour 1 1/2 cups brown sugar 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon salt 1 tablespoon vanilla 2 large eggs 1 1/4 cups butter melted 1 cups white chocolate chips 1 cup dried cranberries This is like one bowl mix so anything goes. Spread batter in two 8x8 square tins, bake for 22 min at 180 degrees Celsius.

Daiso Ramekins

Finally finally went to Daiso!! Wanted to go there for ages already! The first thing I came in, went to the cooking section. Found my ramekins! But they're not white. Oh wells. Can't be choosy for $2 ramekins! There were white ones, but super small white ramekins. And pie tarts too! Oooh so tempting! But I don't know when I'll make tarts hurhur. Actually I'm still thinking what I should bake using these ramekins. I remember having one of those "I wish I had ramekins right now" moments but I can't remember when. Maybe when I was making lava cake . Daiso is evil. It's so cheap you just feel like coming back again! Oh and did I mention there's a $2 weighing scale?! Measures up to a kilo but that's quite alright for baking isn't it! I mean, $2!! Dirt cheap lah. Not sure about the accuracy though. Didn't do much cleaning last weekend, very much spent lazing around at home just like what weekends should be like. I love being at ho
