Do They Have Necks?

Today I learnt a few things. It all started with talk that pigs have no neck. Apparently I read somewhere that pigs have no necks, so cannot sembelih (slaughter). HAHA. Somehow that makes comical sense, but obviously that can't be the main reason we can't eat pork. But my trusty researcher says otherwise, she read somewhere describing that pigs have necks. Then my brother said, amphibians also don't have necks! So maybe that's why we can't eat them. HAHA. If you think about it, yeah snakes have no neck, frogs too. But newts? Hmm. So my researcher went diligently and swiftly to find info, and look what she found on amphibians! Body forms extremely varied - elongated trunk with distinct head, neck and tail to a compact, depressed body with a fused head and trunk and no intervening neck. Wah seh, so varied! Yup, and why we can't eat amphibians, I still don't know. And then info on pigs: Pigs cannot sweat and blood circulation through the ears is important for

My First Hamper

I received my first hamper today!! Usually management gets hampers and gifts from our vendors and stakeholders for Hari Raya. Hehe but I got one too!!! I is happy! But sadly, I cannot claim it for myself!!! Need to declare and give to HR. Bleah. Never mind. I took the flowers that were attached to the hamper. They'll die even if I don't take them, so might as well. HAHA. Red roses! :)

Kuih Tart

Yup it's that time of the year again! Kuih tart. Or pineapple tarts. Leceh, but sedap. Takes ages to make, but very fast disappear. Sigh. Even Pooh wants some.

Fiance Not Allowed

I know it's been more than a month since I came back from Brunei, but I just uploaded the photos. Haha! Some of the photos can be found at my dead travel blog . I'm too lazy to give a full account of my time there, so just see photos lor. Haha. This is the most interesting one I found, took it secretly at the hospital. One of our members got an upset stomach so he went there to see the doctor. It says, only one member of the family is allowed to see the patient. Sorry fiance/fiancee or boyfriend is not regarded as a family member. HAHAHA. I didn't know they had to spell it out! Duh fiance & boyfriend not family yet mah! And the term 'boyfriend'. Hahahah how come they never translate that har. Hmm

Smile :)

I got this from my colleague: The most beautiful thing is to see a person smiling! And even more beautiful is, knowing that you are the reason behind it! Sweet, isn't it? And I totally agree with it :)

Greetings From Brunei!

Hello hello! Day 2 of 4 in Brunei. I tell you, I is impressed with this country! It's super clean, super orderly, the people are VERY well-mannered, very hospitable. This place isn't as bad as what I hear people say. Went to Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque yesterday night after dinner, and that is one breathtaking mosque! I love the lighting on the mosque at night. It is 50 years old, and it looks freaking new! The restoration works are just amazing. The carpet, design, mosiac tiles, paint, all look new. The minaret is undergoing restoration too when we went there. There's another grand mosque here, which is the present Sultan's mosque. Have yet to go to that one. Maybe tomorrow morning... Ooh and tomorrow morning we're going to Kampong Ayer, this water village where some 30,000 (I think) people live! It's complete with a school and even a mosque! Cool rite. Hahaha I'm like visiting the country for a holiday rather than the seminar. Hee hee. So the seminar

Off To See The King?

Off to Brunei tomorrow, will be back on Friday evening. And no it's not for holiday. Will miss you all. I hope Brunei is not as boring as what people tell me. Haha. But just in case, I will bring with me the 2 latest seasons of Smallville that I have not finished catching. Be back soon!

Sashimi

Lately I feel too lazy to type long entries. So anyway. I tried sushi today! I have always wanted to try Hei Sushi, finally I did! My friends were asking me to try this and that. What to do, my first time mah. I had quite a bit of sashimi. Okay lah... Doesn't have the fishy smell. Actually, now while typing this and thinking of eating raw fish makes me a little queasy. Raw fish! I swallowed raw fish! And it was like, hmmm, at least 6 pieces? Bleeeaaaaggghhhh. I think it's easy to get fat if you eat sushi. Cos you see like you eat so little pieces of sushi, but you forgot that actually that mouthful (which I find difficult to chew in one go) contains quite a bit of rice. Danger... I'm still queasy. I think I've had a bit too much sushi for my first time at a sushi bar. Haha. Don't think I'll try it out again anytime soon. Lucky you ;)

Kelantan's Ridiculous Ban

"Malaysian city bans heavy make-up, noisy high-heels" This is a ridiculous ban!! Like, seriously!!! They are suggesting that tapping sound of shoes will encourage rape?!?! What kind of logic is that!! Malaysian city bans heavy make-up, noisy high-heels Posted: 24 June 2008 1525 hrs KUALA LUMPUR - A Malaysian city has banned Muslim women from wearing brightly coloured lipstick and noisy high-heeled shoes to work, the national news agency Bernama reported. City officials in Kota Bharu, the capital of conservative northern Kelantan state, which is run by Islamic party PAS, distributed a circular to local firms last month to outline the dress code, Bernama said late Monday. The report said the circular stated that the directive, which targeted Muslim women working in food outlets and other business premises, was aimed at preventing incidents like rape and illicit sex. It ordered women not to wear thick make-up including bright lipstick, or high-heeled shoes "that gave a tap

Oozing Madness

I tell you!!! I just had a piece of The Royals chocolate truffle, all melted and warm and it's HEAVENLY !!! Actually I lost my liking for their chocolate truffle already, but we still had some leftover from Saturday, so I took a slice. Heated it up in the microwave, actually a wee bit too long cos all the chocolate cream melted and were oozing out like crazy, the cake layers toppled!! But then again, that's what made it look oh-so-delicious!!! Way waaaaaayyy better than eating just the normal cream cake form, which lately tasted like cheap chocolate. Then you scooped up some of the melted cream, plus some cake, waaaaaahhhhh!! Sedap!! So!! Next time you guys try it out!

Blissful Weekend

I have had one of the most amazing weekends in a long, long time. Yesterday's little outing was bliss, today is family bliss. We spent the whole day out! Today's family outing was really fun. Fun in a sense we enjoyed each other's company. My dad especially was in a good mood! For a homebody like him, going out the whole day and not complaining is already good enough. Haha. And he even ate Chinese food which he refused to eat previously! And I like to see my parents holding hands when we go jalan-jalan :)

The Fun Never Stops

Today's amazing. Just amazing. This morning's low tide, like negative 0.2 metres low, perfect day to go Chek Jawa! Yeah, I know, last week I just went. Hahahaha. But but. It rained. HEAVILY. It didn't stop us from doing the board walk! Hehe. So of course we were soaking wet. Like really really wet. The winds were pretty strong too, blowing everywhere. My jeans were stuck to my legs, and I water was squishing out everytime I stepped on the ground. Wahahahaha. We decided to go on with it since we were there already, doesn't matter if people think we're crazy, cos we had fun in the rain :) Couldn't see starfishes and crabs cos it's raining, duh, they wouldn't wanna be out bathing in the rain rite, but we saw this prawn thingy, and crayfish. I was told it's a crayfish. Haha. There's also seagrass, and barnacles. The thing about doing the boardwalk in the rain is, there's no one else! Haha! Shiok rite! :D After that we were in town to find part of

Chek Jawa & Sorts

Saturday was a hectic day. Morning I went to Chek Jawa at Pulau Ubin, was pretty tired after that. On the bus back home, my mum called to say they'll be fetching me from wherever I am and then off we went to Subaru car showroom. Wahhhh I is liking Subaru WRX S-GT!!! I don't like the design, but the engine!! Whoa!!! 250bhp can!! Double that of Swift Sport's!! And the gear shift is the tiptronic kind, wah damn fun lah! I tell you, if me and my dad went for the test drive, we'll be super duper tempted to buy. For that kind of power, the car's cheap cheap!! Hehe. After that we went back, I got ready to go out yet again for the NTUMS Alumni Dinner. Met up with the adhoc peeps, haha pecah perut lah u guys! And I met some unexpected colleagues there too! It is really a small world. Haha. Anyway!! Chek Jawa! That was my first time in any Singapore pulau except Sentosa. Wahahahaha. You really wouldn't believe that place belongs to Singapore. It's so laid back, so kam

Working Lunch

I went to this launch of an ETF lunch seminar with 2 of my colleagues. Actually I wasn't invited, haha who in the right mind would invite me, I was replacing my boss lah. So what do you do at such meets? Collect namecards. Serious! Hahahaha. And eat!! Free mah... Oh yah, and listen to the seminar. The event was at Fullerton Hotel, and since it was a Japanese company, no surprises that sushi was part of the menu. So!! I ate that. And smoked salmon. Muahahaha. Sadly the sushi variety was poor lah. But it's free, can't complain much. Then I went round collecting namecards. The thing is, because of the nature of my company, I was more of a customer, and people from these financial institutions were like potential partners. So it was kinda fun. Haha. The seminar was such a bore. I was trying my best to keep myself awake, but I failed terribly. I think people sitting behind me can see me nodding off. Oh!! My university groupmate was there too!! But he only called me after he left

Imaginary Numbers

Hahahaha I got this from my colleague, and yes I understood the joke!! Apparently he sent it to only finance people. I wanted to forward it to the rest, but I thought, hmm maybe not this time. Haha. Get it? Get it??? Funny rite!! Hahahaha So I'm a math nerd. What's new? Heh.

Straits Kitchen

Today I had the opportunity to have lunch for free (woooohoooooooo~~) at Straits Kitchen. Yes I know it's been around for quite some time but I've yet to go there. I haven't been to Carousel too. Straits Kitchen is like a one stop food fair for local food, especially if you're bringing visitors around. My colleague recommended the Indian food, so that was the first one that I attacked. The rice was nothing special, but the dishes are not bad! Especially the grilled mushrooms! Tandoori's not bad as well. The rice was nothing special. Vege's okok only. I tried some of the Malay dishes as well. Not bad either. The roti jala a bit weird lah, who would expect the roti jala to have potato filling inside! I didn't really explore every single station, but I would say it has quite a variety. It is a must to come on an emtpy stomach. I couldn't really fit much just now, probably cos I ate quite a heavy breakfast. Damn. Hahahaha. So, because it's free, I give i

Mustafa

I went to Mustafa! By myself!! Hahahahaha Today is the only day this week that I drive. It feels good to hold the steering wheel again. Vroom vroom babey~!!! So. That feeling of independence, coupled with my evening mood of not wanting to hurry home, I thought I'd do some me-time shopping or wandering around. Anyway Novena shopping malls were tempting me to pay them a visit. But but! I ended up at Mustafa! Haha! I decided to do a little unnecessary grocery shopping NTUC would have been fine, but it was getting a little late, so what better place than the 24-hour shopping centre! Haha! I always go there with my family, never alone. But it was okay nonetheless. Nothing to worry about ;) Went to the supermarket section, did a little browsing after getting the stuff I needed, then I went off. Kinda nice to do grocery shopping after work actually. Or maybe for now it seems nice cos it's not part of my to-do list and it's not a routine thing. And since I was at Mustafa, I thought
