Wake Up and Smell the Cake

Today's amazing. Just amazing. This morning's low tide, like negative 0.2 metres low, perfect day to go Chek Jawa! Yeah, I know, last week I just went. Hahahaha. But but. It rained. HEAVILY. It didn't stop us from doing the board walk! Hehe. So of course we were soaking wet. Like really really wet. The winds were pretty strong too, blowing everywhere. My jeans were stuck to my legs, and I water was squishing out everytime I stepped on the ground. Wahahahaha. We decided to go on with it since we were there already, doesn't matter if people think we're crazy, cos we had fun in the rain :) Couldn't see starfishes and crabs cos it's raining, duh, they wouldn't wanna be out bathing in the rain rite, but we saw this prawn thingy, and crayfish. I was told it's a crayfish. Haha. There's also seagrass, and barnacles. The thing about doing the boardwalk in the rain is, there's no one else! Haha! Saturday was a hectic day. Morning I went to Chek Jawa at Pulau Ubin, was pretty tired after that. On the bus back home, my mum called to say they'll be fetching me from wherever I am and then off we went to Subaru car showroom. Wahhhh I is liking Subaru WRX S-GT!!! I went to this launch of an ETF lunch seminar with 2 of my colleagues. Actually I wasn't invited, haha who in the right mind would invite me, I was replacing my boss lah. So what do you do at such meets? Collect namecards. Serious! Hahahaha. And eat!! Free mah... Oh yah, and listen to the seminar. The event was at Fullerton Hotel, and since it was a Japanese company, no surprises that sushi was part of the menu. So!! I ate that. And smoked salmon. Muahahaha. Sadly the sushi variety was poor lah. But it's free, can't complain much. Then I went round collecting namecards. The thing is, because of the nature of my company, I was more of a customer, and people from these financial institutions were like potential partners. So it was kinda fun. Haha. The seminar was such a bore. I was trying my best to keep myself awake, but I failed terribly. I think people sitting behind me can see me nodding off. Oh!! My university groupmate was there too!! Today I had the opportunity to have lunch for free (woooohoooooooo~~) at Straits Kitchen. Yes I know it's been around for quite some time but I've yet to go there. I haven't been to Carousel too. Straits Kitchen is like a one stop food fair for local food, especially if you're bringing visitors around. My colleague recommended the Indian food, so that was the first one that I attacked. The rice was nothing special, but the dishes are not bad! Especially the grilled mushrooms! Tandoori's not bad as well. The rice was nothing special. Vege's okok only. I tried some of the Malay dishes as well. Not bad either. The roti jala a bit weird lah, who would expect the roti jala to have potato filling inside! I didn't really explore every single station, but I would say it has quite a variety. It is a must to come on an emtpy stomach. Yesterday I was doing some work at night rite? I was really sleepy, to a point where I was typing with my eyes closed. Just like when you write notes while falling asleep (I recall doing that many times during GP lessons) and end up with illegible scribbles and writing nonsense, same for typing. This was still okay, I was falling asleep, but not that bad yet. THEN ... My brain started to switch off: No link rite!!! What the heck was I thinking!! Totally different topic already lah! Hello. I am in school. Supposed to be studying, but I just had lunch. Yah, you must be thinking, at this hour?! What to do, KFC was super inefficient today. Matt called at 1 plus to order, and they said they were overwhelmed by the numberous calls that were coming in and asked if they could call him back like half an hour later. What rubbish rite. Not enough phone operators, employ more lor. Not very expensive wat. But that's not all! There's much more. So they called back, we ordered. They said it'll be here in 45 minutes. 45 minutes. Never mind. I can wait. Then after 45 minutes, the delivery man didn't come! So Matt called asking why and whether the order went through. Hello hello~!! Today, the ever kaypoh BBC will tell about this girl in the neighbourhood who has a Lamborghini boyfriend! How often does that happen!! Lambo, you say? Just now my mum and I went to 3 places in search for pineapple tart jam. We're going to make pineapple tarts!! :) Hahaha macam we celebrate Chinese New Year. There was only one ingredient left to buy, which was the pineapple paste. My mum said the shop she always buy from didn't have stock, so we went to see if NTUC and Cold Storage have it. But then! Disappointed lah! Both don't have lor! Cold Storage ran out of stock, NTUC didn't even have it I guess. Wah so many people making pineapple tarts meh!! Cannot be lah! Even during the Hari Raya period the pineapple paste wasn't out of stock. Then we went Chong Pang my favourite pasar to buy groceries and to see if really the stock hasn't come in yet. And lo and behold! We found it!! Hahaha. At first we found pineapple paste of another brand, but since we really needed it, the brand didn't matter lah. We're going to modify the paste anyway. Then!! Baking again! Haha. This time it's pineapple tarts supposedly for Hari Raya on the 31st, but I think the tarts will all disappear by then. Today my sister helped out! This was actually baked on Wednesday, but I thought I'll just include it here anyway. Today's batch of pineapple tarts! My sister and I made gingerbread men! Macam we celebrate Christmas lydat. Haha! Actually they're not gingerbread lah, it's the short-crust pastry used for the pineapple tarts. Since we didn't have the mould, we cut the dough using the knife instead. Haha. The prettier one's mine! ;p My sister trying to transfer her short-crust man to the tray. She had to try a few times before getting a nicely cut short-crust man. And then! She had difficulty transferring her pastry man to the tray. Hahah. Our finally decorated short-crust men and cat before baking! Only had almond and choc chips lah, so deco was minimal.
