Chek Jawa & Sorts

Saturday was a hectic day. Morning I went to Chek Jawa at Pulau Ubin, was pretty tired after that. On the bus back home, my mum called to say they'll be fetching me from wherever I am and then off we went to Subaru car showroom. Wahhhh I is liking Subaru WRX S-GT!!! I don't like the design, but the engine!! Whoa!!! 250bhp can!! Double that of Swift Sport's!! And the gear shift is the tiptronic kind, wah damn fun lah! I tell you, if me and my dad went for the test drive, we'll be super duper tempted to buy. For that kind of power, the car's cheap cheap!! Hehe. After that we went back, I got ready to go out yet again for the NTUMS Alumni Dinner. Met up with the adhoc peeps, haha pecah perut lah u guys! And I met some unexpected colleagues there too! It is really a small world. Haha.

Anyway!! Chek Jawa!

That was my first time in any Singapore pulau except Sentosa. Wahahahaha. You really wouldn't believe that place belongs to Singapore. It's so laid back, so kampong. Some parts of it reminded me of Penang, some parts reminded me of the hike I had at one of the Princes' Islands in Turkey.

We took the bumboat there, can fit like 12 people

P1110084
Haha I remember taking this kinda shot for one of the boat rides on my grad trip last year. Should be the one in Turkey? I think Venice should have the same kinda shot.

P1110086
And here we are!! This is the coast near the jetty of Pulau Ubin.

P1110094
We took this uncle's Pajero to go to Chek Jawa. He is pretty entertaining. Wahahaha. Luckily we took the van instead of cycling. Can pengsan har if cycle all the way!!

P1110095
This is the famous Kampong Melayu along the route to Chek Jawa. Dunoe if anyone's living here though.

P1110098
And so the Chek Jawa board walk starts! It's a pity it's not like super low tide, but it's okay. The place itself is pretty enough :)

P1110099
We saw this whole school of fishes, really many many of them! Some don't seem to be moving even. Haha.

P1110108
Mangroves nearer the shore

P1110111
We saw many of these small crabs on the beach! They love to bump into each other, seems like they're fighting but the more we look at them, the more we think they're just fooling around maybe.

P1110118
This is actually sand, with the black parts residue of some sort, I hope it's not oil spill. I just thought this looked great lah cos can see the 'sand dunes' hahaha.

P1110119
This is the coast, with part of the mangrove and there's the board walk on the left.

P1110133
This is the insect that crawled on my tudung. Pretty rite!!

P1110135
The Jejawi Tower

P1110137
The view from the top of the mangrove...

P1110139
...and the view of the ground from the top.

P1110142
This is a weird plant I came across. The brown 'leaves' actually contain pods!

P1110143-old
Hahah so old school rite!!!

P1110145
Some coral-like thingy I found on one of the boulders at the beach beside the jetty

P1110146
...and a close up

P1110149
These are barnacles on the boulders. Some are empty, but these have inhabitants! Is that what they're called? Haha. If you touch them, they'll move. Heh

P1110152
And then it was time to say bye bye to Pulau Ubin :)

I can't wait to come back again! This time I wanna bring someone else wahahahaha.

Daiso Ramekins

Finally finally went to Daiso!! Wanted to go there for ages already! The first thing I came in, went to the cooking section. Found my ramekins! But they're not white. Oh wells. Can't be choosy for $2 ramekins! There were white ones, but super small white ramekins. And pie tarts too! Oooh so tempting! But I don't know when I'll make tarts hurhur. Actually I'm still thinking what I should bake using these ramekins. I remember having one of those "I wish I had ramekins right now" moments but I can't remember when. Maybe when I was making lava cake . Daiso is evil. It's so cheap you just feel like coming back again! Oh and did I mention there's a $2 weighing scale?! Measures up to a kilo but that's quite alright for baking isn't it! I mean, $2!! Dirt cheap lah. Not sure about the accuracy though. Didn't do much cleaning last weekend, very much spent lazing around at home just like what weekends should be like. I love being at ho

Apam Balik

I love apam balik. The soft one, with lots of corn. So when @khairulaming posted this on his instagram, I bookmarked it. The recipe is not too much until you get sick of eating apam balik, but I do feel it needs some tweaks to get the pancake king version. But not bad for a first try. 2 cups flour 1/2 cup sugar 1 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp baking soda 2 tbsp melted butter 1 1/4 cups water 1 egg Additional butter for the pan I do feel it needs some salt, more sugar and I shouldn't have liberally made it so thick HAHA. The pan is important too, I kinda burnt some parts of the pancake. Got them bubbles!! This recipe made 2 large pancakes. Also, the filling needs to be sprinkled with sugar liberally (read: 3 tbsp or so), my first try wasn't enough. Pancake was soft even for the next few days after that (kept in the fridge then reheated in the microwave). Husband found it to be acceptable, but I was kinda not okay with it but ohwells. I can tweak it

Rice Cooker Chicken Mushroom Claypot

All in one pot cooking, what's not to love!  Got this off tiktok, but I figured the chicken and mushroom in the recipe isn't enough. Wasn't really one pot cooking cos I cooked half of the chicken on a pan then added it later after the rice cooker was done. Rice Cooker Claypot Chicken marinade: 600g boneless thigh, cut into cubes 6 garlic, pound 2 inch ginger, pound 6 tbsp soy sauce 2 tbsp oyster sauce 4 tbsp sweet soy sauce Rice: Half of the chicken marinade above 2 1/2 cups rice 2 1/2 cups water 3 tbsp sesame oil 2 tbsp soy sauce 1 1/2 chicken cube (maybe 2 also can) 300g shitake mushrooms Coriander leaves, cut Spring onions, cut Marinate the chicken and leave it for about 30 min. Wash the rice. Add half the chicken marinade and all other ingredients into the rice cooker and mix well Cook using rice cooker. I cooked the remaining chicken over the stove and added the chicken, juices and all, into the rice cooker when it was just about done and needed a few minutes to set. M
